Canyon Ranch®, the world’s leading wellness brand, was built on passion, mission and a fierce commitment to exceeding customer needs – principles that have sustained its growth for more than three decades and will continue to guide its future. Susan E. Docherty – a proven business leader who shares these values – is carrying on the company’s history of excellence, inspiration and innovation in her role as Chief Executive Officer.
The Canyon Ranch destination resorts and SpaClub® day spas deliver best-in-class, highly individualized, integrative experiences that motivate people to embrace the wellness lifestyle. This, Ms. Docherty says, makes the brand more relevant than ever as the global wellness revolution grows stronger each year. On a personal level, the mission resonates with Ms. Docherty’s dedication to her own wellbeing and that of her family.
Her passion for wellness is matched by her business savvy and impressive career. Before joining Canyon Ranch, Ms. Docherty spent almost three decades at General Motors where she held senior executive positions, including several vice president roles, both in the United States and overseas. Among her many achievements with luxury automotive brands are launching award-winning vehicles such as the Chevrolet C7 Corvette and game-changing electric Volt, and conceiving, creating and launching the popular luxury Cadillac Escalade sport utility vehicle.
And much like Canyon Ranch itself, Ms. Docherty is no stranger to trailblazing. She was the first female in the company’s 100-year history to be appointed and hold a corporate officer title as Vice President of Sales. Her wit and wisdom is captured in the book The Corner Office: Indispensable and Unexpected Lessons from CEOs on How to Lead and Succeed (St. Martin’s Griffin).
Many factors compelled Ms. Docherty to accept the appointment of CEO in April 2015, but it was the “pioneering spirit and vision” of Canyon Ranch that drew her to the organization. “With the support of my very talented team, I want to ensure that this cherished and respected brand not only endures, but thrives and evolves, impacting the physical, mental and spiritual lives of new audiences domestically and globally.”
Ms. Docherty earned her Master of Science degree in Management from Stanford University as a Distinguished Sloan Fellow, as well Bachelor of Business Administration and Bachelor of Arts (Business/Managerial Economics) degrees from the University of Windsor. She is also on the board of directors of The Brink’s Company and serves as a member of both the Audit & Ethics and Finance & Strategy committees.
